Akeem Joffer (Eddie Murphy), the prince and heir to the throne of African country Zamunda, is bored with being pampered all his life. When his parents, King Jaffe (James Earl Jones) and Queen Aeoleon (Madge Sinclair), introduce him to his future wife (Vanessa Bell), a woman he has never met before and who will obey his every command. Akeem decides to escape to America to find a wife he can both love and respect. He and his loyal servant, Semmi (Arsenio Hall) select Queens, New York as the perfect place to find a Queen! There he lands a job at McDowell’s where he and Semmi pretend to be foreighn exchange students.
